Drabstraction

This one started out as an abstraction, inspired by Felix, and turned out to be a… skeletal sea dragon? I really enjoyed this exercise. I’m particularly happy with the top portion of the beast. I’ll probably revisit the tail soon. Kinda looks tattooish.

The Drop – hardground
Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 | Drawings, Jimsan | No Comments
Starting to get into crunch-time as I near the end of the term. Here’s an image of my copper plate after I etched into the hardground and before I bathed it in acid. When my time isn’t consumed by exam studies and other other-worldy pursuits I’ll be able to get back to my beloved sketching.

Closure

Preparing lines for tomorrow’s tracing and etching. Added a bit of detail here and there, but most detail will be added using dry-point after the acid bath. I’m not entirely happy with how this piece turned out, but I did discover a few things. I’m going to try something similar, with the same theme, later on.

Adding details

Aftermath

I had originally planned out this three-paneled landscape in PS, but, the .psd somehow went missing. I had to redo it today from scratch. This WiP is, perhaps, the scene of a large city several years after WWIII takes place.

This is how my head feels tonight. Fever + nausea x zombie = tonight’s sketch.

It took everything I had to finish this. I was running out of time till the contest deadline and my attention span is tiny!

Along for the Ride

The last image from my second print series. This will actually rest in between the individual frog and turtle pieces when displayed. I’ll post the copper plate after I etch the lines and dry point the details. It was done using no references. The other is just another sphere I practiced.

Hard Shells

My turtle sketch a la copper plate. I figured out a way to take the picture in light without glaring too bad! Still working on a decent technique for shading on metal, which I do after the acid etching, with dry point.

A couple references pulled together. The original hand was grabbing a dumbbell. :p
