Sketches, one by a Guest Artist
Saturday, May 23rd, 2009 | Drawings, Felix, Life-Drawing | No Comments
Who is the guest artist, you might ask? You’ve seen her once or twice or a few more times in my drawings, and this time she opted to draw me during the last drawing of mine (#3 in this series).
The drawings are as follows: “Cross-Legged” (Foreshortened— she isn’t fat!), “Passed Out,” and “Clear-Eyed.” You’ll notice from the drawing of me that she did while I drew her that her eye is perhaps sharper than mine. How frustrating.

Apologies for the long post, but we’ve got a bunch of stuff going on here. The final Charcoal Value Exploration (click for a larger version if you’re so inclined) alongside a series of figure explorations. Enjoy!

Wake up my friend, you’ve been dreaming again…

Bus Drawings
Monday, May 18th, 2009 | Drawings, Felix, Life-Drawing | No Comments
A couple line drawings of people on the bus. I don’t think either of them caught me drawing them. That is to say, I didn’t ask their permission.

Sleeping & Listening
Monday, May 18th, 2009 | Drawings, Felix, Life-Drawing | No Comments
Two relatively quick sketches. Not gestural, by any means, but without the careful hemming and hawing that can go into a “serious” drawing. This also means they’re free from some of the baggage longer-term drawings carry. Good times!

Pasture Drawings
Saturday, May 16th, 2009 | Drawings, Felix, Life-Drawing | No Comments
We were out at the barn for about five hours today, and it was a prime day for drawing outdoors. Truly sunny and warm, enough that I think I got a bit of a sunburn. I didn’t do five hours of drawing, sadly, since my pencil eventually got too dull to use. I was productive, though, and did some decent sketches. One of these days I’ll figure out how to draw a horse’s face. That’s still a mystery to me, as you’ll see with some of my interesting results.

Chopping Potatoes
Wednesday, May 13th, 2009 | Drawings, Felix, Life-Drawing | No Comments
A relatively quick drawing while she was chopping potatoes for a pot pie. The face is a bit strange, partly because I never get the face quite right and partly because she kept moving.

Friend, Grandma & Mules Grazing
Monday, May 11th, 2009 | Abstract, Drawings, Felix, Life-Drawing | No Comments
The first drawing is an attempt to draw a friend of mine. The second is an abstract drawing I drew on my way to the interring of my grandmother who recently passed. The last is a very quick attempt to capture the essence of mules grazing. I don’t consider the sketch a success.
