Thursday, Unfinisheds, Scribbles
Thursday, November 6th, 2008 | Drawings, Felix | No Comments
Mixed bag here. The first three are Thursday’s harvest. The next three are semi-complete “dirty” sketches — one leftover from Hallow’s Eve, the two character sketches more recent. The last three are really fast drawings of things that either popped into my head or that I just didn’t have much time to draw. Those three fall into the “scribbles” category. They only end up on this site since Steve wanted me to do more full disclosure of my drawing habits. Anyone seen Steve lately?
Stained Glass WIP

A friend of mine recently fulfilled a promise to draw me a sketch for one of my 3D scenes, that would eventually be a stained glass window texture. They did the sketch for me, and I started transforming it into stained glass. Something I’ve never really done before, so the process is a bit labor intensive as I discover new ways of Photoshopping.
Felix has been hounding me to put anything up, too.
I’m posting the original first, ©2008 Ying Xu, used with permission. The second is a half-res of my work so far.

It took everything I had to finish this. I was running out of time till the contest deadline and my attention span is tiny!

Along for the Ride

The last image from my second print series. This will actually rest in between the individual frog and turtle pieces when displayed. I’ll post the copper plate after I etch the lines and dry point the details. It was done using no references. The other is just another sphere I practiced.

At Long Last

All right, clearly something’s going wrong here. Steve and I haven’t been posting nearly enough to this blog, which must surely be discouraging for Jim-san. Anyone have ideas for how to make us step up our game? Well, share your thoughts for inspiration and prolificacy as you will; the main point of this post was to share a couple drawings that I’ve made in the last week (yikes!) One’s digital and the other’s from my notebook.
I’ve got a few more scribbles and thoughts jotted down visually to share. I’ll gather them and post them here in the near future.
Hrm.

I know, I’ve been negligent. It’s tough, being unemployed and freelancing. Spent too much time this week looking for new work. Just watched the Obama acceptance speech.
I’ve got two sketches here, and I have a piece I’ve been working on for at least 4 or 5 hours now coming soon. Based on someone elses drawing, yeah, but it has been a lot of work.
Teeth are hard. I challenge you to try them yourself.

My turtle sketch a la copper plate. I figured out a way to take the picture in light without glaring too bad! Still working on a decent technique for shading on metal, which I do after the acid etching, with dry point.

A couple references pulled together. The original hand was grabbing a dumbbell. :p

Took a reference of a hand off of Google because I move too much to draw my own.
