Eye try

I didn’t have time to draw during vacation (the abstract car doodles left something to be desired), but I’m back. I’m not finished with my Halloween illustration, but I decided to do a bit of eye study tonight.

About halfway done with this piece. Still lacks shading, background, extras, and some touch-ups on the outline.

A rough of a piece I want to submit for a Dofus art contest. Maybe. I’ll most likely digitally touch up the proportions tomorrow.

Camera isn’t turning on, so I guess it needs a recharge, and I’m not waiting for that since I want to sleep, so I’ll backdate tonights post tomorrow morning. Not much again anyway! In other news, I installed Google Analytics on the site, and did some optimizing after a report of poor page-load times. Let me know if there are issues.

Edit: That’s all I had done in thirty minutes, but I discovered two important things drawing those heads. The first thing I discovered was why I prefer to draw small. It’s because I can see the entire form more easily, and know when something is proportionally or perspective-ly out of whack. When it’s larger, I find myself not paying attention to it. Interesting, but now that I know it, I can account for it. And secondly, on the smaller head, I was learning some important lessons in perspective. I’m pretty good at perspective when it comes to straight lines and vanishing points and such, but it never made much sense to me organically. I can’t put my finger on what I figured out, but I found myself working out the perspective in the same way I’m learning to work out proportion. Neat, I guess. Sometimes it’s funny how you can learn a lot from something quick, and learn nothing at all from something longer. 🙂

Not much to show, but better than nothing. Trying some work on basic face-shapes.

Back to My Roots

Since I’ve only posted more or less finished images to this blog, I thought I’d post these two “in progress” drawings that I drew but that were never finished. I would have finished them, but it was one of those situations where you’re putting a sneaky eye on people and drawing them surreptitiously. I didn’t want to make a fuss when they got up and left.

The third piece is something else, an abstraction that took me a while. I think Steve was joking, but he told me I should go back to doing abstractions. 😉

Control

I did some work to fix up the frog I posted a few days ago. I intend to use it for printmaking in my second series. This evening I did some more freestyle Cintiqing with the little toon characters I created.

..now and always.
